Yes, did you know goat meat has many health benefits and is one of the healthier meats for you to eat? We are not health food experts so do more of your own research but this is what we have learned about goat meat.

Goat meat is called chevon and is the most consumed meat in the world. The main places being Africa, Asia, South and Central America and some European nations. Goats are not native to the U.S. They were first brought to America in the 17th century possibly by Spanish explorers and missionaries. It has even been speculated that these goats came over on the Mayflower.

Chevon is considered to be the healthiest red meat. It has the lowest amount of calories, is naturally lean and is packed with nutrients. Chevon is an excellent source of high quality protein compared to other red meats. It also is a good source for many vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Vitamin B12, Potassium, Selenium, and Zinc just to name a few.

Also, DID YOU KNOW that goat meat is the highest in Iron. Chevon (or goat meat) is highly recommended during pregnancy. Iron is the most common nutrient deficiency in the U.S. which causes anemia during pregnancy. The high Iron content in goat meat helps combat this.

Do you have high blood pressure? Goat meat is significantly low in sodium which can help to regulate blood pressure. Some studies have even suggest that eating goat meat regularly may reduce the risk of diabetes.

When preparing goat meat it is very important not to over cook it. Because it has very little fat and is very lean it can dry out and become very tough. It is suggested to cook with moisture such as in a soup or stew or roast. It is also suggested to cook it at a very low temperature. Most people will say the goat chops are the best part of the goat but that is just their opinion. There are many different cuts you could enjoy. If you never tasted goat meat it is similar to lamb if you ever had that. But it also depends on how you make it. We've had a roast that did not have the goat taste. It all depends on how it is prepared.
